Pastoral Council and Commissions

We have a vibrant community of parishioners who take active roles in every aspect of our mission. Here are some who are active in our Pastoral Council and our Commissions. (Commissions focus on particular aspects of our mission, and Pastoral Council focuses on the parish as a whole.)

Carl Greiner

Carl Greiner and his wife Laura have been members of College Church for about 10 years.  They have three adult children and a granddaughter. When their sons were attending SLUH they became inspired by Jesuit faith formation.  They enjoyed the Social Ministry and Adult Faith Formation offered through College Church.

Martha Daly

Martha joined the Council in 2021, and is honored to serve in this capacity. She graduated from Dominican University in River Forest, IL, and has been a member of College Church for about 17 years. She is also on the Pastoral Care Commission, volunteers for the Social Outreach ID and birth certificate program, and is a Eucharistic minister both at SFX and at St. Louis University hospital. She has a daughter, three grandchildren and most recently a great-granddaughter. Martha is also an avid golfer.  What is most intrinsically life-giving she believes are the challenges, perspectives and comforts that Ignatian spirituality brings. “It is the heart and soul of our parish…who we are and who we always strive to be.”

Jonathan Howard, Secretary

Jonathan started coming to College Church after moving to St. Louis and beginning the OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) process in early 2018. He was baptized and confirmed at SFX on Easter 2019. He has participated in Lightworks and is an active participant in the Young Professionals Group here at College Church. He joined the Pastoral Council in 2024 to answer the call posited throughout his faith formation journey: Who is God and what does He want from me? Jonathan currently lives in Princeton Heights in south St. Louis City with his dog and enjoys spending time with his fiance, riding bikes, or playing soccer.

John Hartung

John has long felt connected to the Jesuits. He is Jesuit educated, two of his great uncles were Jesuits at College Church, and he met his wife Mimi (a SLU grad) there. John and Mimi joined the parish in 2009, drawn by College Church’s social justice conscience, its celebratory mass with such thoughtful homilies and beautiful music, and the ideal Ignatian-based faith formation opportunities College Church offered them and their two sons. John has chaired the Youth Faith Formation Commission and currently serves on the Adult Faith Enrichment Commission. John also serves as a lector and coordinates College Church’s participation in the Men’s White House Retreat.

Katie MacLean

Katie joined College Church officially in 2024 after discerning for a church home and being active in Winter Inn.  She joined the Council in August 2025. Originally from Oshkosh, WI she is a licensed clinical social worker, specializing in working with older adults. Currently, she works at SLU as a Graduate Advisor to international students while also pursuing a master’s degree in theology. She also enjoys working with the Immigration Justice Committee, making casseroles for St. Patrick’s Center, and serving as a Coordinator for Winter Inn.

Howl Bean

Howl Bean and his wife, Rebecca, have been members of College Church for about 8 years. They were married at College Church in 2018 and have a two-year old son, Emerson. The entire family can usually be found (and heard at times) during the 8 AM Mass. By day, Howl works as a transactional attorney, and by night, he serves as an expert block builder and story reader for Emerson. Howl also volunteers as an attorney applicant for the Social Outreach ID and birth certificate program. In his spare time, Howl enjoys playing and participating in various sports, especially tennis and baseball.
