The screening will be followed by a special Q&A with Judge Jimmie Edwards and Sr. Jackie Toben
Co-sponsored by the Peace & Justice Commission of the Archdiocese, the Incarnate Word Foundation, and the Interracial Relations Committee of the North City Deanery
“For Ahkeem” is the intimate, true life portrait of a North St. Louis girl, Daje Shelton, who winds up in Judge Jimmie M. Edwards’ Innovative Concept Academy after a school fight. She loses friends to gun violence, falls in love for the first time, and becomes pregnant with a boy, Ahkeem, just as Ferguson erupts nearby. “For Ahkeem” illuminates the challenges many Black teens like Daje face in America today, along with the strength, resilience and determination it takes to survive. For those of you who attended the pilgrimage in September, you heard Judge Edwards speak about this film and his experience of starting the Innovative Concept Academy. Free admission, with good will offerings toward the school accepted.
